On the road together for more than 20 years
Ever since Marco Gössi took over the family coach business from his father, it has not stopped growing – and neither has BDO’s remit.
It’s perfectly clear as soon as you meet them: Marco Gössi, proprietor and CEO of Gössi Carreisen AG and his client partner make an excellently integrated team. Marco Gössi proudly shows Peter Baumgartner the latest model from the total fleet of 21 coaches.“You can have the very latest coach with every comfort imaginable, but if the customers are not convinced by the driver or the advice given, you haven’t got a chance in the travel market!” Peter Baumgartner is bound to agree: “As a client partner, I have a similar function to the coach driver – the context is different, but I have to meet the same expectations regarding quality.”
The seeds for the successful partnership between the two men were sown when the company succession was being planned. The first generation of the Gössi family already appreciated the excellent working relationship with BDO – a factor that definitely made it somewhat easier for Peter Baumgartner to take on the mandate. “Nevertheless, nobody else can do the job of building up and consolidating the personal relationship with a client
– I have to develop that basis myself.” He has had plenty of opportunities to achieve this in recent years. During this period, Gössi Carreisen AG has achieved remarkable growth – not least through acquisitions. Peter Baumgartner was involved in all the investment decisions, and he provided the right recommendations on whether or not to go ahead with acquisitions.
At the same time, the company had to confront increasingly complex issues – the German passenger transport tax is just one example. In situations like these, Peter Baumgartner draws on the specific know-how of specialists in BDO’s regional centres or in its international network. “For every specific issue that arises, I provide Marco Gössi with access to the right BDO experts. At times, I call on large numbers of BDO specialists to advise Gössi Carreisen AG, especially on tax matters. The essential point here is that I never lose sight of the overall picture, and I always act as my client’s ’extended arm’”, Peter Baumgartner adds.
